ENSOR: In your wildest dreams

Commissioned by MediaMixer

Videocampaign to promote the 'James Ensor: In Your Wildest Dreams' exhibition at KMSKA.
The motion piece translated Ensor’s surreal imagery and vivid color palette into a modern visual story, adapted for TV, cinema, and social media. It captures the energy and eccentricity of Ensor’s world while inviting viewers to experience the unique exhibition in Antwerp.

The challenge

Mediamixer reached out just days before the deadline, needing dynamic visuals to match the energy of the upcoming James Ensor exhibition
at KMSKA. The brief demanded speed, precision, and a strong creative link to Ensor’s
eccentric style.

Solution

Working alongside their art director and team,
I built a continuous zoom sequence that pulls viewers directly into Ensor’s universe.
Original artworks were processed with AI to separate elements into layers, allowing for parallax and depth within a flat composition. Using fake 3D techniques, lighting shifts, and subtle camera motion, I created the illusion of space and movement, giving Ensor’s static scenes a sense of scale and immersion while staying true to his visual language.

Results

  • TV-spot reached 1 million viewers.

  • Online campaign has 1.75 million impressions.

  • Most visited expo of the KMSKA after the reopening of the museum in 2022.

Final tv master

A seamless zoom animation built from layered Ensor paintings, reconstructed with AI and enhanced through fake 3D depth and dynamic camera movement.

Social media campaign

I adapted the animation into multiple social media versions. Reformatting for square and vertical layouts, adjusting pacing and framing for smaller screens and tailoring duration, text and rhythm to fit platform specific time limits and viewer attention spans.

Marketing output

In addition to the cinema and social media versions, the animation was also displayed on large digital billboards across Belgian cities, including the Meir in Antwerp, Veldstraat in Ghent and Rue Neuve in Brussels.

Extending the campaign’s reach from theaters and feeds to the streets.
